In the last couple of years, Christopher Saliba has reached a further milestone in terms of artistic expression. He has created diverse art installations, the latest exhibit being a video art in collaboration with two contemporary music composers. With his most recent creation, a video art/installation entitled Virtual Confinement, Saliba confirms his position as one of the most complete and versatile contemporary artist in Malta. His oeuvre of wide-ranging creations now includes 3D digital animations devised by the latest technological and computer equipment. The quest for newer media and unconventional forms of expression reflects the artist’s urge to keep the pace with current trends and developments in contemporary art. Saliba is increasingly showing concern about current issues which influence, affect and direct humanity in the post-modern times. In Virtual Confinement emerges once again the artist’s preoccupation about physical isolation and phsycological confinement.
For his tenth solo exhibition, Christopher Saliba teamed up with his brother, Victor John Saliba, an IT graduate, to produce his latest and probably most challenging creation. Virtual Confinement is one of the events marking the end of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, and will be on show at the lower galleries of St. James Cavalier between 1 December 2008 and 6 January 2009.
