Welcome to Christopher Saliba's Official Website

Throughout these recent years, artist Christopher Saliba has built a reputation as one of the most authentic talents emerging from the sister island of Malta (E. Fiorentino, 2003). He received his artistic training at the University of Malta and the Accademia di Belle Arti "Pietro Vannucci" in Perugia, Italy. Saliba is perhaps best known for his unique, expressionist interpretations of local landscapes. However, his interests go beyond representational motifs. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, installations and video art are all valid means which Saliba makes use of to express his thoughts and emotions. His approach to art is versatile and painting is just one medium in his repertoire of artistic creations. What is common to all his works is his ideology about man and his relation with the natural environment.

Through his work, Christopher Saliba reveals the spiritual nature of the human being as well as the primordial link between mankind and the natural environment. Whatever the theme or content of his works, the intent is always to represent the essence of spiritual energy that comes from deep inside. Forms and colours establish a direct relationship with his inner emotions, revealing the relative state of mind. You, as an active participant, are invited to relate with his compositions and interpret them accordingly. Thank you for showing interest and hope you enjoy viewing this site.

Latest Update

Soon after my successful solo exhibition at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta, I was already busy  working on a small collection of paintings which were indicative of my latest  research and development. These were exhibited at gallery Art…e in Gozo, together with the works of another artist and friend of mine – Mario Cassar. These events increased my acquaintances of interested art lovers and patrons. On the occasion of Gozo 1234, I was invited by the major of Victoria to paint an plain air and exhibit my works at St.George’s square. Standing in the middle of the square, surrounded by a numerous and interested crowd of Gozitans, Maltese and foreigners, was indeed a great experience.

At the moment, I am working on a number of commissioned works and on my next challenging project. More information about my next solo event will be soon available on this site.  My website will have a different look as from next June and it will include only a selection of what I consider my best works, some of which  were never shown in exhibitions. It’s a pity that some of my best works were acquired without the possibility of exhibiting them.

At a personal level I have to say that it is such a strong feeling which I experience whenever I leave a home with one of my paintings behind. I get the feeling that a part of my inner world is bound to relate day by day with the souls of several individuals. A painting is truly a living and  pulsing entity which enhances a spiritual experience with its beholders. Lately, I finished my latest work commissioned by Tonio and Daniela, who will soon get married.  This painting will adorn the house in which they shall soon move in. My latest works can be visited by appointment at my home studio –  mob. 79069325.

Everything is planned for my next exhibtion which will probably end my busiest and most productive year so far. This exhibition will feature my latest collection of semi-abstract landscape paintings - works which have been produced during the last year. The palette used is more chromatic and my experimentations in textural renderings which featured in past exhibitions have progressed with time. More information about the exhibition will be provided soon. In the meantime I am busy working on an extensive project of abstract paintings. Above are some pictures which show me at work on one of these paintings.

The country in which reside the largest number of foreign patrons owning one or more of Saliba's works is Holland. This abstract is the latest work which found its new home in Holland. Other works are found all over Europe and world-wide, including USA, Canada and Japan.
